Iris LGBT Short Film Festival

Best Parties Ever Event City Manchester

Best Parties Ever Event City Manchester

Each year Best Parties Ever host their Christmas party in Manchester’s Event City – Hawthorn provide technical support for Event City. The client requested a last-minute change to a pre-programmed show on Avolites so I was given responsibility to go into the show and make changes as requested by the client. After this I operated the show for three weekends traveling up to Manchester from Loughborough, making regular changes for the client, setting up and shutting down each show. Other duties included a kabuki setup and drop.

Moonwalk

Moonwalk

Not all jobs are glamorous! At moonwalk Hawthorn provide full technical support in London and Edinburgh. In London my priority was working 9m up to install large floors inside the main big tent, running lots of soca down steel cables into distro. Also helped around site with power and uplighting for the smaller VIP areas.

Manchester Vivid Christmas Party

Manchester Vivid Christmas Party

This project was set in Manchester Great Central Hall, a large space in which a large winter wonderland set was constructed. The rig was a large triangular truss section with two smaller triangles lifted vertically so they stood like three pyramids. The main challenge on this project was raising the structure, experienced venue riggers too the lead on the job, removing bottom sections to avoid a twisting effect due to the strains of being lifted. The lower sections of the triangular truss were attached after the larger sections were raised. With the rig being preloaded with sharpys it was important to consider the weight on each leg and on each motor as the structure was lifted into place.

Further to rigging many small birdies had to be installed in a large log cabin, using par behind windows to give a warmth effect and chandeliers to make it authentic. Cabling had to be subtle and tidy, giving a professional finish, the team were able to drill strategic holes in set to achieve this.

URC General Assembly

URC General Assembly

I have been working on a corporate event running lighting for this conference in Southport. The job involved setting up a generic rig on a long board table and lectern. LED lights were used around the room an operated by me using a ChamSys Magic Q console. The event feature mainly static lighting with a few chases during worship.

The rig presented challenges as it was at a high angle to the focused area using cross light to overcome this. The conference was live streamed and was attended by 300 delegates.

BAFTA Q&A Cardiff

BAFTA Q&A Cardiff

Last night I got the oppertunity through the uni to help with the BAFTA Q&A session for a new Welsh soap, the rig was simple with just two source 4 joinors lighting up a small panel at the front of a cine world screen. The evening contained a mixture of video footage and interviews.
