National Lottery Stars

Each year Hawthorn provides media surge to the BBC production of National Lottery Stars, National Lottery Stars invites celebrities to celebrate the achievements of charities across the country which have been given money by the National Lottery to help them achieve their goals. The job entails hanging around 100m of media surge around the studio to give a low-resolution video wall that moving graphics can be displayed across to give a large textured effect around the studio. The media surge however is temperamental and often pixels break causing lines of pixels to freeze, in order to fix this a ladder was used to access the fault pixel (often the first in the line of dead pixels) and apply pressure to the pixel to push the 5 wires into the sharp connectors in the pixel. Although the team were under high pressure to get it done in time for going live it was important to remain calm and fix the surge, the studio was busy with a lot of people trying to get on with their jobs so it was essential to get the job done safety, efficiently and without leaving trailing cables.
